Angeli

IT IS THE GREAT PRIZE OF FASHION PHOTOBOOKS: ANGELI BY PAOLO ROVERSI. PUBLISHED IN AN EDITION OF JUST THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FIVE COPIES IN 1993: IT IS VERY RARE. YOU PROBABLY HAVE MORE CHANCE OF MEETING AN ANGELO THAN FINDING A SECOND COPY OF THIS BOOK.

We knew it existed but finding a copy was another matter. Angeli by Paolo Roversi was published in Paris in 1993. There were only ever 375 copies: not nearly enough for everyone who would really, really want one now!

The nude pose suggests that if Kirsten Owen is a messenger from heaven, she may not be going back. Like Eve with the apple or more literally Bruno Ganz's character in Wings of Desire, to err is definitely the choice of the divine.

So delicate. An angel sent by fax. These portraits are some of Roversi's most ethereal.

Generally regarded as Roversi's favourite model and appearing twice in this book, Kirsten Owen is his angelo personified. A rather seductive angel we would suggest with a distinctly human gaze and a great haircut.

It is so precious. There are only twelve photographs and one of those is of a donkey! Perhaps it is the perfect ratio. 8.33% of all published photographs should be cute animals. Bruce Weber fits the rule.

The book itself is equally delicate. A series of folded loose pages in card covers and slipcase. See it all here.
