Commercial Photo Series 27

JUST KNOWING THAT SOMETHING EXISTS IS NOT ENOUGH. IT HAS TO PHYSICALLY APPEAR. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR SINCE WE
FOUND COMMERCIAL PHOTO SERIES 26 (PARIS). NOW WE HAVE NO.27 (LONDON). IT IS
AS BRILLIANT AS WE
IMAGINED IT WOULD BE. AND WE IMAGINE BRILLIANTLY!

The missing book. Found. We wrote about Commercial Photo Series no.26 (Paris) on this link last year. We knew that numbers 1-26 were not superbooks but we didn't know that no.27 was. It really is. The London special is quite staggeringly SPECIAL!

They got the printing very right. The black and white pages are gravure printed and the colour, like this Barry Lategan double above, is gloriously saturated (not a phrase we use very often!).

Just look at that. Bowie by Duffy. The true treasure of this book is the Duffy chapter. His photographs but also photographs of him and his studio and, if we could only read the Japanese text...

So the full list of photographers profiled are David Bowie, Brian Duffy, Barry Lategan, James Wedge, Lester Bookbinder, Michael Berkofsky, John Bishop, Christa Peters, Harri Peccinotti, John Bishop, Karl Stoecker and Terence Donovan, whose perfectly realised pages are adorable.

And a revelation. The Karl Stoecker photographs are amaze. Stoecker shot the first three Roxy Music album covers, the back cover of Transformer  and an Allen Jones series with Amanda Lear. Born in Brooklyn he worked in London from 1966 to 1975. More Terry Richardson than Terry Richardson and forty years before. A new visual superhero!

The year is 1975 - if that wasn't super obvious from  Harri Peccinotti's colour pictures from the pages of Nova. There isn't a better book of this time or place. There aren't many better books of any time or place. It is what a superbook is. See more on this link and hit the button below to try and buy. One copy. One love!
